In the crisp autumn of 1892, our founding family first perfected a daring cure blending wild-caught Atlantic salmon with sea salt, dill, and subtle hints of juniper berries. This delicacy was prepared to honor a visiting royal delegation to the fjords of western Norway, marking the birth of what would become our iconic smoked salmon tradition.
Once those inaugural batches emerged from the family’s traditional smokehouses, word spread like mist over the waves, inspiring countless artisans to adapt the method. Today, these tender, flavorful slices rank among Scandinavia’s most celebrated seafood staples. Our core operation, now known as “Havets Arv” – the Heritage of the Sea – supplies these treasures to Norwegian tables and exports to more than 50 international destinations. Steered by the sixth and seventh generations of the lineage, the brand champions that original smoked salmon, seasonal gravlax specialties, and the revered Nordic aquavit infusion dating.
